ABOUT US

FORMED IN 2008

Port City Marine Services (PCMS) is a Michigan based marine transportation company. Our main offices are located in downtown Muskegon, Michigan at the West Michigan Dock and Market Corporation (the Mart Dock).

The Port City Marine Services executive management team is made up of seasoned maritime professionals with decades of experience operating a wide variety of vessels including: Great Lakes freighters, tankers, and towing vessels of every type.

Our current fleet is dedicated to transporting dry-bulk cement products. However, in recent years we have transported bulk cargos including: iron ore, stone, sand, and coal, as well as liquid bulk cargoes such as gasoline and diesel fuel.

While we are based in the Great Lakes, our experience has taken our operations to the St. Lawrence Seaway, Gulf of Mexico, and Inland River System. Through our affiliates and operational partners, we have direct access to numerous docking facilities throughout the Great Lakes that allows Port City Marine Services to provide efficient transportation solutions designed to meet the expectations of our customers. Contact us today to let us put our experience to work for you.

OUR HISTORY

THE PCM STORY ACTUALLY BEGINS IN 1930.

At that time, Sand Products Corporation (SPC) was in the business of mining and processing industrial sands and, through wholly owned subsidiaries and partnerships, became deeply involved in Great Lakes shipping and vessel ownership that has carried on for generations through to PCMS today. The early 1930s also found SPC operating a large commercial dock in Muskegon, MI., handling a wide variety of cargoes at the Mart Dock. This operation continues today.

A GREAT LAKES INDUSTRY

OUR RICH MARITIME HERITAGE

Following WWII, SPC acquired a number of war surplus vessels and converted them for continued service on the Great Lakes including the LST 393, which began a new life as the HIGHWAY 16, ferrying new automobiles across Lake Michigan between Muskegon and Milwaukee from 1948 through 1973. Three large ocean going surplus C-4 cargo ships were purchased after the war and brought to the Great Lakes. Two of them were converted into dry bulk freighters and one was converted into passenger service. From those early days through to this day, SPC companies, including PCMS and its sister companies, have owned and/or operated numerous Great Lakes vessels and we expect that our rich maritime heritage will continue into the future.
